Anambra State House of Assembly Committee on Public Accounts has commenced verification of audited 2019 financial transactions of the twenty-one local government areas of the state.
The exercise, holding at the Assembly complex in Awka, will last for about two weeks.
House of Assembly Correspondent, Chukwuemeka Modilim was there and reports that while speaking during the exercise, the Chairman, House Committee on Public Accounts, Sir Somtochukwu Udeze explained that the exercise is part of the oversight functions of the House designed to encourage good public accounting system.
Sir Somtochukwu called on the local government councils coming for the verification of their financial transactions for the year under review to appear with all the documents requested from them to enable the committee do a thorough job, even as he maintained that it was not designed to witch-hunt anybody but to guide all the local government councils in theAir financial activities in accordance with the law.
The Committee, which verified the projects executed by Aguata Local Government Area, observed that there was improvement in their financial transactions compared to previous meetings.
In his remark, the Transition Committee Chairman, Aguata Local Government Area, Mr. Eche Ezeibe assured that the local government will carry out the directives of the Committee and commended them for living up their oversight responsibilities.
The Committee also attended to Ihiala Local Government Council, which gave necessary explanations as regards their transactions in 2019, while the Committee mandated them to keep their records consistent.
