It was a beehive activities at Dr Alex Ekwueme Square,Awka as the Ministry Of Women and Children Affairs, mark’s 2020 Mothers’ Summit.Â
The Summit which was a yearly affair have its theme as “sustaining the fight against gender- based violence.” Amaka Chibuzo Okoye reports that the event attracted women from different organizations both from the churches, ASATU Women Wing, Legislative Wives Associatio and local government and Party women who trooped out en-mass in their different uniforms to join the wife of the governor,Dr Ebelechukwu Obiano as she celebrates the Summit with them.
There were different farm produce displayed o exhibition stands and empowerment of different cooperative societies with garri grinding machines and other materials .
The women later conducted match past competition local government by local government as well as other displays.
Speaking during the event, the member representing Nnewi North in the State House Of Assembly Honourable Nonso Okafor who is the Chairman House Commitee on Gender ,Social Development and Children Affairs, said the program is unique as it brought the women together to brainstorm on family affairs and issues that will encourage them to live positively.
Honourable Okafor noted that motherhood is a vocation that demands mothers to promote morality even as he frowned at those who maltreat or get involved in gender base violence and commended the governor’s wife for all her support to the women in the state.
Also speaking, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Awka Capital Territory Development Authority, Venerable Amechi Okwuosa said that the theme of the summit is very important fight in today’s society as gender base violence has caused alot of pains in the life of some women and condemned in totality the act of molestation or battering of women and called for sensitisation, to encourage female gender to speak out.
On her part, the State Woman Leader Of The All Progressive Grand Alliance ,APGA, Mrs Gloria Udevi said through the summit, they’ve learnt alot and used the medium to bring together the women to achieve a common goal of promoting positive life.
 The event climaxed with the presentation of trophies to the winner’s of match past competition by the Commissioner for Women and Children Affairs,Lady Ndidi Mezue.
