Late Monsignor Gregory Adibe has been laid to rest at the Basilica of the Most Holy Trinity Onitsha, amidst high commendations, testimonies and tributes.
In an introductory speech during a concelebrated Requiem Mass, the Metropolitan of Onitsha Ecclesiastical Province, Most Reverend Valerian Okeke said the Archdiocese has lost an outstanding priest, who gave his all for the growth of the church and prayed for the repose of his soul.
In a sermon, the Auxiliary Bishop of Onitsha Archdiocese, Right Reverend Dr Dennis Isizo said the number of years one lived on earth does not matter rather the impact one made stating that Late Monsignor Adibe exhibited great love for the church and humanity.
Dr Isizo stressed the need for Christians to prepare themselves well while on earth to carry the light of God to eternity.
In a funeral oration on behalf of Onitsha Archdiocesan Presbyterian, Reverend Father Paul Nwanegbo highlighted the numerous works of Late Monsignor Adibe describing him as a humble and empathic priest while Miss Uche Adibe, on behalf of the Adibe family, traced the background and early beginnings of the late Monsignor.
Other relations of Monsignor Adibe including Chukwuebuka and Valentine Adibe said their late uncle, impacted greatly in their lives and entire Adibe family promising to carry on his legacies.
The Chancellor of Onitsha Archdiocese, Reverend Father Prudentus Aroh, who described late Monsignor Adibe as treasure to the mother church, thanked everybody, who came to bid farewell to the fallen priest.
Dignitaries from across the country including Anambra State Commissioner for Basic Education, Professor Kate Omenugha, former Governor Peter Obi, former Vice Chancellor, Chukwu Emeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Professor Fidelis Okafor and All Hallows Old Boys Association among others also paid their last respect to late Monsignor Adibe.
The late Monsignor Adibe, who died at the age of seventy-two, was the second indigenous priest of Nkpor community, who was ordained priest in 1981, became Monsignor in 2005 and appointed Papal Chaplain in 2015.
