Members of Progressives Association of Academic Staff Union of
Universities, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Odumegwu Ojukwu, have unanimously
decided to go on with academic activities in the school.
The unanimous decision was reached after a meeting of the group held
at the Political Science Department of the university, Igbariam
Campus.
Addressing members of the association, the chairman, Professor Osita Chiaghanam said that they decided to start classes because Anambra State Government has been paying salaries of workers both during and after COVID-19 lock down and when schools are closed unlike other
state universities in the South East zone.
Professor Chiagahanam, who appreciated Governor Willie Obiano for
making staff welfare his priority, commended the Vice Chancellor of
the university for all round infrastructural development in the
university and for promoting staff welfare. UPSOT
Supporting a motion signed by Professor Chiaghanam and the Secretary,
Dr Innocent Ngaanga, for the association to through their weight
behind the Vice Chancellor, a senior lecturer in the faculty of
clinical medicine, Dr Amechi Nwachukwu and Associate Professor Chinedu
Igboeli of the Mass Communication Department, said the Vice Chancellor
has not just brought about total turn around in the school but also
improved the welfare of workers.
Supporting the motion, the Provost College of Medicine, Professor
Walter Nwafia, Dean, Faculty of Education, Professor Nnamdi Obikeze,
Professor Anselem Nweke, and Dr Fidelia Okeke explained that the
grievances that led to the strike does not involve state universities,
wondering why they should be fighting a cause that does not concern
them.
They declared their total support on the decision to move the
university forward by commencing academic activities.
