The Archbishop of the Province of the Niger and Anglican Bishop of
Awka Diocese, Most Reverend Alexander Ibezim has called on political
leaders to evolve policies that will help in alleviating the plight of
the masses.

Most Reverend Ibezim made the call, in a media chat on Nigeria’s
sixtieth Independence Anniversary.

Correspondent, Amaka Chibuzor-Okoye quotes Most Reverend Ibezim as
saying that political leadership revolves around accountability
through the provision of ingredients of good governance to ensure the
growth of democracy.

While stressing that the masses would only be happy when they extract
effective representation from the elected, Most Reverend Ibezim
described corruption as one of the greatest challenges retarding the
development of Nigeria and urged leaders to deemphasize graft to
enhance its socio- economic growth.

He said Nigeria is sick and needed leaders, who would make efforts to
address the economic and political problems affecting it as according
to him, at sixty years, it should have grown into a nation capable of
utilizing its human capital and natural resources to overcome issues
negating its transformation since Independence.

The Anglican Archbishop explained that the nation could only contain
its problems through sincerity of purpose to combat the spiritual
decay in public affairs.

Most Reverend Ibezim, who noted that Nigerians are highly religious,
advised them to pray fervently as well as do the right things to
enable God intervene in solving the socio-economic challenges.
