Rational thinkers postulate that Chief Dr Mrs Ebelechukwu Obiano, Osodieme, has what it takes as a woman that cares, and no innuendo can erase her large heart and the Blessings of God in her life. Anyone who visits the Caring Family Enhancement (CAFÉ) Center at Nteje, ran by the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs, will see what care entails, what it means to impact in the life of the underprivileged. CAFE is the Pet Project of Chief Mrs Obiano, the Caring First Lady of Anambra.
The Center houses all kinds of people living with different ailments, and suffering from diverse handicaps. Indeed it was a Center for the Handicaps. That centre makes realists take a deeper look at the person of Osodieme, who many now refer to as the Mother Theresa of our time. Mrs Obiano embodies empathy, compassion, care and deep sense of human empowerment. These are the attributes of a great leader, usually, who understands the need of the people.
What is at Nteje is just a tip of the iceberg of what Mrs Obiano has done for the underprivileged in Anambra State. From rescuing a woman from Ebonyi State at Onitsha, who had been declared insane by her people, and roamed the street as a mad woman. The day of reunion of this woman with her people at Ebonyi was like a celebration of someone who has died but suddenly came back to life. Osodieme gave that woman back her life. What a treasure, what a heart.
There is no doubt that hundreds of houses built for widows across Anambra State by Dr Ebelechukwu Obiano shows that the life of the underprivileged really meant something big to her. The smile that radiates in the faces of these women and family once they step into the new homes is just indescribable. Tears of Joy, laughter, singing and dancing accompany such gestures. Osodieme delivers happiness in abundance to the underprivileged in the society.
On a visit to the centre, a philanthropist and an Estate Developer, Chief Austin Oguejiofor, (Onwa Enugwu Ukwu na Umunri) was so enthused with what he saw that he made a handsome donation instantly to CAFE so that such gestures will get round to others.
No doubt, many people may not understand the kind of impact or the worth of the sacrifices that Osodieme has made in touching the lives of thousands of people. So, it will not be out of place for some lazy arm chair critics to cook up frivolous innuendo and lies which border on mere propaganda to diminish the impact of her great work.
Before Osodieme became the First Lady of Anambra State, she had always engaged in philanthropic gestures, which had impacted immeasurable in the lives of thousands. What she is doing now is a carry over from her private existence. She was a business woman of repute before her husband, Chief Dr Willie Obiano, became the Governor.
Ndi Anambra, and indeed Igbo have a capable First Lady in the person of Chief Mrs Ebelechukwu Obiano, (Osodieme); and she has, in many ways, demonstrated that capacity by the number of people she has lifted off the poverty line and from homelessness. Indeed, tomorrow beacons on Ndi Anambra as our Mother Theresa continues to put smiles on the faces of the people.
Dr Mrs Obiano is too focused on all she does for the betterment of the people to be distracted by petty jealousy, orchestrated by detractors. Osodieme has seen the future of our suffering widows, invalid people and those who require all kinds of assistance.
Indeed, for those in need, their future is already here because of the large heart of Osodieme. Those prayers said in the inner recess of the heart and mouth of those rescued from the dilapidating effects of poverty and unwholesome conditions will always Osodieme going, healthy, prosperous, and glowing.
God will never leave those who look after the poor under the weather, rather, as the Bible says; “God will continue to bless those who consider the poor”.
