About nine hundred and thirty-five less privileged and physically challenged persons from Idemili North and South Local Government Areas received palliative as wife of the Governor of Anambra State, Dr Mrs.
Ebelechukwu Obiano, continued her 2020 LGA tour in the areas.
The beneficiaries, including widows, children, the aged and the physically impaired, were selected from each of the seventeen towns under the two local government areas.
The palliative, though, a usual schedule that has defined the annual visit over the past six years, has become crucial because of what it solves for the beneficiaries, and most essential at a time like this when the ravages of COVID-19 have had severe economic toll on people, especially the indigent.
Dr Obiano, who is the founder of the charity organization, Caring Family Enhancement Initiative, CAFE, who spoke at Idemili North and South Local Government headquarters, emphasized that haven known these difficulties faced by her people, she insisted on embarking on the visits to see how she could help them get through.
She observed that the visits have become a huge part of her that cannot be changed by any circumstance, stressing that she would continue to touch people’s lives in and out of politics.
The governor’s wife appealed to transition committee chairmen of various local government areas to collate names of people that would be trained and empowered by her NGO and send to her office for onward processing.
The members representing Idemili North at the Anambra State House of Assembly Honourable Ifeanyi Chiekwu and his Idemili South counterpart, Honourable Chuka Ezenwunne, commended the governor’s wife for sticking to her passion for the downtrodden even at a period of global economic hardship.
The Transition Committee Chairmen of Idemili North and South Local Government Areas, Barrister Asha Nnabuife and Honourable Dom Unachukwu, praised the tour for having significant effect on social mobilization and grassroots reach, adding that Dr Mrs Obiano has, through her works, defined political practice in Nigeria.
The Special Adviser to Governor Willie Obiano on Political Matters, Chief Ifeatu-Obi Okoye, said that the annual tour which the governor’s wife has been doing for six years teaches humanity the essence of love and deep compassion devoid of political gains, while the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Anambra Small Business Agency, ASBA, Sir Clement Chukwuka, spoke of how the governor’s wife, has, through vocational programmes, helped drive the foundational goals of the agency through empowerment of women and youths.
Anambra State Commissioner for Social Welfare, Children and Women Affairs, Lady Ndidi Mezue, that of Basic Education, Professor Kate Omenugha, APGA Board of Trustees member, Chief Romeo Ezeonwuka, APGA stakeholder, Chief Patrick Uddoh traditional rulers from each of the seventeen towns under the two local government areas were present at the event.
Dr Mrs. Obiano shall continue her visits today at Oyi and Dunukofia Local Government Areas.
