The Anambra State House of Assembly has passed a resolution urging
President Muhammadu Buhari to course a total and thorough reform of
the Nigeria Police Force for optimum performance.

The resolution was sequel to a motion of urgent public importance
sponsored to that effect by the member representing Nnewi North
Constituency, Honourable Nonso Okafor during yesterday’s plenary in
Awka.

House of Assembly Correspondent, Chukwuemeka Modilim reports that Honourable Okafor who recounted the brutalities, intimidation, abuse
of human rights among others Nigerians have been subjected to by the
police, noted that if urgent steps were not taken to reform the force,
the bad eggs in the agency will continue to portray it in bad light.

On his part, the member representing Njikoka One Constituency, Dr.
Timothy Ifedioramma called on the Inspector General of Police, Mr.
Mohammed Adamu to subject men of the Police Force to psychological
evaluation so that they could discharge their duties in the right
frame of mind, just as his Anaocha Two Constituency counterpart,
Honourable Ejike Okechukwu urged President Buhari to consider the end
SARS protest by the youths to prevent their protest from getting to
uncontrollable situation.

The Deputy Speaker of the House, Right Honourable Paschal Agbodike who
presided over the plenary urged end SARS protesters not to take laws
into their hands as Anambra State Government is working hard to
address their grievances and commended Governor Willie Obiano for
intervening in this regard.

Also at plenary, the House passed the report of its committee on
Public Accounts on the audited accounts of the twenty one local
government areas across the state for the year 2019 as a working
document.
