Anambra State Government has introduced a Sign Language Class for
residents without cost for learners.
The Special Adviser to Governor Willie Obiano on Disability Matters,
Mr Chuks Ezewuzie, who made this known, explained that the free
teaching will be holding at the Humanitarian Services Centre, at the
Professor Dora Akunyili Women’s Development Center in Awka.
Mr Ezewuzie who emphasized the importance of sign language
Communication urged residents of the State to get enrolled and take
advantage of the sign language class, as according to him, sign
language is a special and unique language that everyone ought to
learn.
He further disclosed that Governor Willie Obiano has directed that
sign language teachings should be included into the School curriculum,
hence the reason for the commencement of Free Sign Language class by
his office.
Mr Ezewuzie a lawyer called on all Citizens of Anambra State to make
use of the programme and learn sign language Communication, as it is
now a necessity for smooth communication with the Deaf community.
According to him, the first batch of the programme will commence this
Month for the staff of Office of the Governor on Disability Matters,
while second batch is general which is free.
Mr Ezewuzie maintained that his office has five sign language
interpreters that are on hand to teach intending students for the
duration it will last at no cost.
