It was a unique display of culture and tradition as Ndi Ezi-Agulu Aguleri in Anambra East Local Government Area celebrated the 2020 Onwa Isaa Festival.
The annual event, which is an age-long tradition and celebrated on October, took place at the Ama-Umuala Square, Aguleri.

The colorful event was also used to showcase and lift the prestigious Ikenga as well as an avenue to thank God for the gift of children and wealth among community members.

The Chairman Board of Trustees and the Managing Director of Anambra State Waste Management Authority, Mr. Amarachi Akorah, who thanked God for a successful event, said it promotes the rich cultural heritage of the people.


The Chairman, Ezi-Agulu Forum, Engineer Basil Manafa, explained that the festival of Onwa Isaa, is connected to Alommuo, their new yam festival which stretches to Onwa Isaa.
For the member, ABS Board of Director, Mr. Marcel Manafa, promoting culture and tradition are paramount as they add tremendous value to the success and development of any community and called for its sustainability.

In their separate reactions, the traditional ruler of Enugu Aguleri, Igwe Ezechukwu Emeka-Eri, the oldest man in Ugwu na Adagbe Aguleri, Pa Ogugua Akorah and Chief Obiorah Okafor, viewed culture as people’s way of life, expressing joy that their culture and traditions were brought to the fore through the festival.


The 2020 lifter of Ikenga, Mr. Okechukwu Ogua, while expressing happiness for the opportunity and privilege to be part of the celebration, explained that the Ikenga is lifted triennially by each age grade.

The event climaxed when the Ikenga was ushered into the arena and gyrated to the tune of drummers even as the spectators struggled to catch a glimpse of the exhilarating display.
