A Judicial Panel of Inquiry into the activities of the  disbanded  Special
Anti-Robbery Squad in Anambra state has been inaugurated.

Governor Willie Obiano inaugurated the panel yesterday at the
Executive Chambers of Government House, Awka.


Government House Correspondent Ejike Abana reports that the panel is
headed by Retired Justice Vivian Umeh.

Inauguration of the panel premised on Governor Obiano’s promise to
ENDSARS protesters on Thursday last week.


Other members of the panel are Barrister Uju Nwogu, Professor Theresa
Obiekezi, Mr. Mark Okoye, Dr. Bonaventure Enemali and  Retired Air vice
Marshal Ben Chiobi.

Others are, Bishop Johnson Ekwe, Reverend Father Kenneth Oraebunam and Reverend John Ndubuisi who  are the representatives of the Anglican, Catholic and
Anambra state Christian Association of Nigeria respectively.
Others are, Mr. Joseph Ekwunife, representing Pentecostal Fellowship
of Nigeria, Igwe Nnamdi Oruche representing the Traditional rulers,
representatives from women lawyers, NUAS, three senatorial zones,
NYSC, Civil Liberties Organization, NYCN, ASATU and  Ohaneze Youth,
ENDSARS Group and the Civil Society Network.

Governor Obiano commended the youth leadership in Anambra for an
excellent conduct of themselves, exemplified by the way they lawfully
carried out their protest.

While stating  that inauguration of the panel is the last of their
requests , the governor said that the panel has  one month to present
it’s report.

In her remarks, Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barrister Uju Nworgu said that it is in fulfillment of Governor Obiano’s promise that all
requests of the protesting youths  were being  granted,  to
continuation to  find enduring  solution to the immediate problem of the
protesting youths, which she said will engender peace.


Responding, Justice Umeh thanked the Governor for the calm way he
handled the protesters, notng that it lays credence to the conduct
and character of Anambra state, assuring that the panel will do an
excellent job.
