Anambra State Association of Non-Indigenes Onitsha North Local
Government Area Chapter has been Inaugurated.

The Inaugural Ceremony attracted the local leadership of Onitsha Community.

Correspondent Emengini Osadebe who was there for the ABS reports that
the association comprise of individuals from different parts of the
country who are not from Anambra State but resides in Onitsha North
Local Government area.

One of the community leaders in Onitsha Chief Mike Areh who performed
a dual role at the event as the representative of the traditional
ruler of Onitsha Igwe Alfred Achebe as well as the Royal father of the
day commended the existence, mission and vision of the Association and
prayed for its sustenance.

He stressed the importance of making the people understand that the
people of Onitsha are accommodating and loveable, hence the need for
collective efforts to move the community forward.

In their remarks the Chairman of the Anambra State Association of Non
Indigenes, Prince Sunday Aniobi and the Chairman on the Occasion Sir
Philip Nsude who explained that most of them were born and brought up
in Onitsha while some of them came to the town said the group was
formed to help move the community forward and pledged their readiness
to help fight crime and criminality in the town, as well as obey the
laws of the land.

In their separate speeches, the Transition Committee Chairman for
Onitsha North Local Government Area Mr Patrick Agha-Mba and the
President-General Onitsha Improvement Union Sir Chike Ekweogu
commended the association for identifying with their host community.

In their various addresses, the Patron of the Association, Chief
Patrick Nwafor and  Secretary Mr Chidozie Ewudo said that the aim of
establishing the Association was to reassure their host Community of
their loyalty and sensitize the youths on the importance of peace and
unity for the good of both indigenes and non indigenes of the
community.

The Newly Inaugurated Chairman of the Association Comrade Ben Chikezie
in an interview said among other things the Association is poised at
forging a common front that will assist all Non-Indigenes in the State
get their quota in Governance and urged Members to be law abiding.

The Member representing Onitsha North and South Federal constituency
in the House of Representative Honorable Lynda Chuba Ikpeazu
represented by her Personal Assistant, Honourable Ikechukwu Muotune
and Honourable, Chidozie Nwankwo pledged their support to the group.

Presentation of awards to some people who has distinguished themselves
in their service to humanity, featured during the event.
