Ndi Anambra have been urged to key into Governor Willie Obiano’s smart state initiative to accelerate sustainable development.

Speaking in Awka, the National Chairman of Willie Obiano Support Group, Chief Jude Emecheta said the initiative would help drive the state vision 2070.

Paul Ezeoke reports that Chief Emecheat noted that with the on-going Cargo Airport project at Umueri, the state is not only opening up its airspace but also attracting more investments to all sectors for effective harnessing of resources for increased productivity.

He explained that the initiative is encouraging estate developers to put in place all necessary infrastructure and facilities in a collective arrangement in line with global best practices to uplift
quality of life of the people without unnecessary waste of space and resources.

Chief Emecheta explained that the on-going house numbering exercise which includes uploading the buildings and their data to the internet would enable visitors from all parts of the world to easily locate their destinations in the state without difficulties, enhance rapid response to emergencies by security agencies, firefighter’s, medical personnel and other social services providers as well as promote e-commerce as marketers could now deliver goods to their customers in any part of the state.

Chief Emecheta called for review of schools curricular to include more areas of ICT to equip the pupils and students with necessary knowledge and skill to fit into emerging opportunities of the digital technology.

Also speaking, a landlord, Chief Kenneth Ozurumba commended the Anambra state signage and advertisement Agency for embarking on the house numbering exercise which he noted has further raised the statue of Awka as a capital city urging the Agency to extent the exercise to other parts of the state.
