Youths of the ten communities in Idemili North Local Government area alongside Presidents-General have mobilized a peaceful march to declare an end to violence and act of vandalism.

The protesters in their large numbers with placards of various inscriptions marched along the old road, Afor-Nkpor, Ugwunwashike, Afor-Igwe among others.

Addressing the youths, the traditional ruler of Ogidi, Igwe Alex Onyido re-emphasized that the Anambra State government will no longer tolerate acts capable of breaching peace in the State.

Condemning the activities of miscreants who exploited the ENDSARS opportunity to disrupt relative peace being enjoyed in the State Igwe Onyido decried the wanton destruction of lives and vandalization of government property across the State.

The traditional ruler, while lamenting the colossal loss and level of damage in the area, regretted that the Late Professor Chinua Achebe’s library in the area was adversely affected.

On his part, the traditional ruler of Obosi, Igwe Chidubem Iweka, who commended the agitation by the youths to end police brutality, cautioned against violation of law and order.

He said that the peaceful march was to discourage unrest occasioned by the protest and encouraged them to be vigilant in protecting government property in their various communities as leaders of tomorrow.

Earlier, the President-General of Ogidi, Mr. Chuka Onubogu called for order and solidarity.

The Transition Committee Chairman for Idemili North Local Government Area, Mr Ralph Nnabuife thanked the youths for heeding Governor Obiano’s directive on safeguarding their communities and advised them to eschew violence and seek dialogue in resolving issues.

Meanwhile, hundreds of Anaocha youths have staged a peaceful march across the local government area pledging to defend their communities from outsiders who have been looting property and burning police stations.

Correspondent, Chukwuemeka Modilim reports that the peaceful march was in line with Governor Willie Obiano’s charge on Anambra youths to defend their communities from miscreants.

The exercise which was led by the Transition Committee Chairman of Anaocha Local Government Area, Mr Patrick Onyedum saw the youths displaying placards with various inscriptions such as “Maintain peace, protect lives and property in Anaocha “,”No vandalization of property in Anaocha”, Defend your community from miscreants among others.

Speaking to journalists after the peaceful march, the Transition Committee Chairman for Anaocha Local Government Area, Mr Onyedum called on the youths to remain calm and continue to display peaceful disposition as well as desist from vandalization of both individual and government property.

Mr Onyedum who regretted that their peaceful protest has been hijacked by miscreants, resulting in loss of lives and property across the federation, appealed to them to give peace a chance as Anambra State Government has started meeting their demands.

He expressed appreciation to Governor Willie Obiano for including youths in his administration and for sustaining peace in the State.

On his part, the Member representing Anaocha Constituency Two at the Anambra State House of Assembly, Sir Ejike Okechukwu also harped on the need for Anaocha youths to remain calm and be law abiding.

The participants commended Governor Willie Obiano for the measures he put in place to improve the welfare of the youths.
