Southeast Governors have ended the two day closed-door meeting with critical stakeholders, women and some youth organizations as well as MASSOP group in the region aimed at restoring lasting peace and development across the zone after the EndSARS protest and social unrest across the nation.
The two day closed-door meeting, held at the Enugu State Government House, left the participants with no other choice than to go back to their various states and take actions towards making things right to regain people’s confidence in the government.
The chairman, Southeast Governors Forum, and Governor of Ebonyi State, Engineer Dave Umahi said the group will do everything possible to meet the demands of MASSOP and youths in the zone for enthronement of lasting peace and harmony.
He assured that the governors will swing into action immediately to actualize the aim of the two day meeting in their various states.
Earlier in a communiqué read on behalf of the Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB, the Leader of the group, Comrade Uchenna Madu demanded that the federal government should as a matter of urgency address critical challenges facing the southeast states including construction of all the deplorable roads in the zone, disarming of Fulani Herdsmen, providing opportunity for Igbo’s presidency in 2023 and creation of one more state in the southeast to bring it at par with other zones in the country.
He further called on federal government to address the discrimination and marginalization of Ndi Igbo in the federal civil service and urged the Southeast Governors Forum to constitute a committee that will monitor the of victims of the recent crisis in the zone. compensation
Speaking on behalf of the youths, the Executive Chairman National Youth Council of Nigeria, Enugu State chapter, Comrade Pascal Ugwu thanked the Governors for accommodating the youths in the meeting, saying that such depicts Youths inclusiveness in decision making.
The meeting, presided over by the Chairman, Engineer Dave Umahi, had in attendance the Enugu State Governor, Chief Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, his Abia State counterpart, Okezie Ikpeazu, Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State represented by his deputy, Dr Nkem Okeke and Imo State Governor, Mr. Hope Uzodimma also represented by his deputy.
Government House Correspondent, Emmanuel Okonkwo reports that among stakeholders present were Minister of state for Environment, Dr Sharon Ikeazo, Minister for Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige, Minister for Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeamah, Senator Ikeh Ekweremmadu, Chairman Southeast Traditional Rulers Forum and the Traditional Ruler of Onitsha, Igwe Nnaemeka Achebe, and the President of Ohaneze Ndi Igbo Worldwide, Chief Nnia Nwodo among others.
