Anambra State Council of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, NUJ has condemned all attacks and violence against journalists and media workers.
In a statement on 2020 International Day to end Impunity And Crime Against Journalists, signed by the Chairman, Comrade Emmanuel Ifesinachi and Secretary, Comrade Emma Udeagha, the Council also condemned attacks on journalists during the EndSARS protests and called on the government to promote a safe and enabling environment for journalists to work without undue interference.
While commending journalists in Anambra State for their professional coverage of events, the Council also lauded the state government, state Police Command and other security agencies for the able way they managed the last EndSARS protests and commiserated with the state Police Command, individuals and corporate organizations that suffered human and material loses during the unfortunate incident.
It appealed to youths to give peace a chance as their grievances are already being comprehensively looked into by the government.
The Council stressed the need for greater collaboration between the state government and journalists for more beneficial and result oriented information flow on government activities to the people.
It assured that the Council would continue to work with security agencies and other relevant stakeholders to tackle impunity against journalists and build a culture of safety in journalism practice in the state but cautioned journalists against unethical and unprofessional conducts.
