A Non Governmental Organization, Lend a Light Foundation has held a one day Cancer awareness creation walk in Awka, Anambra state.
ABS Health Correspondent Chibuzor Okoye reports that the walk which kicked off at Dr. Alex Ekwueme Square Awka passed through Arroma Junction, Zik’s Avenue, Nkwo Amenyi, Ifite road and terminated at Dr. Alex Ekwueme Square.
Speaking during the walk, the founder of the foundation, Princess Diana Ndigwe-Okafor said that the essence of the walk was to enlighten people on the dangers of various types of cancer and what they need to do in order to be free of the disease.
She said that apart from health related matters, the foundation also helps in education, gives soft loans to poor women as well as helping in other societal challenges.
The Director of non communicable diseases, Anambra state Ministry of Health, Mrs. Stella Chiejina who was equally part of the walk enlightened women on what they need to know about cervical and breast cancers as well as prostrate cancer for men.
Statistics indicate that only breast cancer has killed over one hundred thousand women in Nigeria this year.
