The Speaker, Anambra State House of Assembly, Right Honourable Uche Okafor says the 2021 Appropriation Bill of one hundred and forty three point six billion naira will be given speedy passage to ensure steady and sustainable development of the state.
Right Honourable Okafor gave the assurance at the occasion of the presentation of 2021 Appropriation Bill to the legislature by Governor Willie Obiano during yesterday’s plenary.
House of Assembly Correspondent, Chukwuemeka Modilim reports that the Speaker stated that the seventh Assembly is happy with the new trend by the Obiano’s administration in early presentation of the state appropriation bill to allow enough time for proper scrutiny and ensure that it is ready for implementation from the first of January of the budget year.
The Speaker who observed that Ndi Anambra were actively involved in the articulation of the 2021 Appropriation bill, maintained that the House will give it an accelerated consideration in order to make room for optimal implementation.
He noted that this year’s budget implementation showed that good attention was given to both human and infrastructural development across the state.
The Speaker assured Governor Willie Obiano that the House will remain committed to its duties, especially at this challenging time of COVID-19 and worsening economic condition by supporting his administration in all honest efforts to revive the economy and bring succour to the people worst hit by the present devastating economic realities.
In a vote of thanks, the Chairman, House committee on finance and Appropriation, Chief Obinna Emeneka, called on ministries, Departments and Agencies to be ready for the upcoming bilateral budget discussions with the relevant committees of the House, which will commence on Monday next week as the House will not tolerate excuses for non appearance of Heads of MDA’s or the production of relevant documents.
Honourable Emeneka also expressed appreciation to Governor Obiano for earmarking two hundred million naira for the families of those who suffered torture from the defunct Special Anti Robbery Squad, SARS.
Supporting motion for adjournment, the Majority Leader, Dr. Nnamdi Okafor commended Governor Willie Obiano for the ongoing construction work at Awka city stadium, after he sponsored a motion in that regard on the floor of the House as well as Awka International conference centre, which he described as very strategic to the development of the state.
