The Anambra state government has commenced aggressive palliative work on roads in Nnewi North Local Government Area of Anambra state.
This is to ensure free flow of traffic during the ember months, when human and vehicular movements are usually on the increase.
Correspondent, Joseph Egbeocha witnessed part of the exercise and reports that Transition Committee Chairman of the Local Government, Prince Chukwudi Orizu, listed some of the completed project sites to include Mmirikwe, Saint Peters, Igwe Orizu, Maria-Regina roads, among others.
Work is also ongoing at Ibeto road, Ozubulu road, and other roads. Conducting newsmen round the sites, the local government chairman, Prince Orizu, represented by the Supervisory Councilor for Works in the area, Sir Fabian Obi, explained that the palliative work is a clear testimony of importance the Willie Obiano administration attaches to ensuring safety on the state roads.
He commended the State government for responding to the yearnings of people of the area, particularly in addressing environmental challenges, urging citizens to remain supportive.
Some road users who spoke to the ABS, among whom were Messrs David Mbele, Peter Sunday and Osita Okpala, said the exercise is a practical step taken to ensure sanity on roads, urging other road users to abide by safety measures on roads at all times.
