Determined to maintain the January-December budget cycle, Governor Willie has presented one hundred and fourty three point six five billion naira 2021 Appropriation Bill to Anambra state House of Assembly for consideration and approval.

 

Government House Correspondent, Ejike Abana reports that eighty -six -point -eight eight billion naira representing sixty point five percent is for capital project while fifty -six point seven seven billion naira representing thirty nine point five percent is for Recurrent Expenditure.

The sum is expected to drive the 2021 budget tagged “Economic Recovery and Consolidation”, which will help help sustain the past achievements and ensure maintenance of Anambra’s status as a hub for business and a destination for new investments.

 

Highlighting the sectoral capital allocations , Governor Obiano said that roads and bridges will gulp thrity two billion naira, while nineteen point four four billion naira will be spent on the construction of new roads as well as rehabilitation of existing ones, stating his administration’s resolve of completing fifty ongoing road projects in the three senatorial zones of the state.

 

He added that the Anambra Road Maintenance Agency (ARMA) will be funded to the tune of one point two billion naira for effective road maintenance in the state.

According to the Governor, while the Education Sector is estimated to take five point zero billion naira, three point one five billion naira is allocated to Environment , while the sum of five point four billion naira has been allocated to Youth Empowerment and Creative Economy

He announced that five point eight billion naira will go to the Anambra international Airport Umueri and five hundred million naira is for the completion of International Conference Center Awka.

 

The Governor who noted that while the sum of two hundred million naira is allocated as payments and compensations for victims of the defunct ENDSARS, health will gulp six point eight billion naira, while Water Resources and Public Utilities will gulp three point seven seven billion naira to sustain the Light Up Anambra Programme.

Responding, the Speaker Right Honourable Uche Okafor assured the Governor that the Assembly would ensure a accelerated passage of the bill.

 

The Speaker stated that all the Commissioners and Heads of Departments and Agencies will be invited to defend their estimates, noting that with the achievements by the current administration in five years, the Assembly will continually support the state government through passing of people-oriented and development-driven laws.

Also speaking, the Majority Leader, Mr. Uchenna Okafor moved the motion to accept the Appropriation Bill and he was seconded by the Minority Leader, Mr Onyebuchi Offor.

The lawmakers also approved a motion for the second reading of the bill.

Paulinus Ezeokafor, APGA National Chairman, Chief Victor Oye, members of the state Executive Council, Deputy Chairman of the Traditional Rulers’ Council, Igwe Sunday Okafor , State CAN Chairman, Rev. John Ndubuisi and State PFN Chairman, Bishop Moses Ezedebego among others.

Recall that Governor Obiano had postponed the 2021 budget presentation by one week, following the #EndSARS protests and unrest across the country.
