Anambra State Ministry of Housing says it will continue to champion its mandate of closing the gap between housing and housing demands in the state.
Commissioner for Housing, Architect Michael Okonkwo gave the assurance while reacting to the 2021 fiscal Appropriation Bill which was recently presented by Governor Obiano at the floor of the State House of Assembly.
Architect Okonkwo, while describing Governor Obiano as prudent and realistic, pointed out that commendable allocation was made to Housing sector including five billion naira for the Airport project, five hundred million naira for the International Conference Centre, five hundred million naira for three stadia development in Awka, Ekwulobia and Nnewi.
Commissioner Okonkwo said that the present administration, mindful of the growing population across the state and its attendant housing deficit, will keep working on ongoing projects including delivery of smart affordable housing estates, adding that more people are heeding the Governor’s Aku Luo Uno Call to help address the housing needs of Ndi Anambra.
On ongoing efforts towards provision of low cost housing, he said that the federal government recently approved the social housing scheme which is affordable and sustainable, stressing that in line with the Governor’s policy thrust, a company has indicated interest in providing social housing using new building technology.
The Commissioner for Lands, Mr. Bonaventure Enemali said that the budget is detailed and apt, considering the challenges experienced in 2020 as it is well structured to position Ndi Anambra for recovery, as well as consolidate the achievements of the present administration.
Commissioner Enemali who noted that about one billion naira was budgeted for Lands, explained that it will help what the ministry is already doing in Geographic Information System, GIS management to ensure digitization of lands and that government is in the process of making more monetary compensation for lands acquired from native owners.
Governor Willie Obiano had on Tuesday, 3rd October, 2020 presented a budget size of one hundred and fourty three point six five billion naira which has fifty six point seven seven billion naira as recurrent expenditure and eighty six point eight eight billion naira as capital expenditure.
The budget had already passed second reading at the State House of Assembly.
