The outgoing Transition Committee Chairman of Dunukofia Local Government Area, Engineer Emeka Okonkwo has formally handed over the reins of duty to Mr. Emeka Chinweze, who succeeds him as the new Transition Committee Chairman of the council.


Engineer Okonkwo, who came into office in 2019, served in that capacity for one year and eight months an administration that many speakers at the event described as the best in the history of the local government area.

Engineer Okonkwo had announced his resignation last month, stating that the move was in the best interest of his party, the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, and assured that he remains a full-fledged member of the party despite his step down.
The formal handover, organized by the outgoing TC chairman, is the first to be held in the history of transitional administration in the local government area.


Speaking at the event, Anambra State Chairman of APGA, Sir Norbert Obi, who was represented by the state Deputy Youth Leader of the party, Honorable Chike Odoji, said that Engineer Okonkwo did an excellent job during his time, setting a standard for grassroots leadership, and urged the new TC Chairman to focus his energy on grassroots party mobilization.

In their separate remarks, the first Executive Chairman of Dunukofia Local Government Area, Chief John Olibie, and the APGA Chairman in the local government, Mr. Vincent Ezennia said that the formal handover depicted strong political unity that guides the party and commended Governor Willie Obiano for entrenching an atmosphere that balances equity.

Engineer Okonkwo, in his valedictory speech, thanked Governor Willie Obiano for giving him the opportunity to serve, and encouraged the new TC Chairman to continue to champion the cause of APGA in the local government by building a political family that understands everyone’s aspiration as the ground has Already been easy for him.

On his part, the new Transition Committee Chairman of the Local Government, Mr. Chinweze pledged to carry everyone along and to also build on the achievements of his predecessor.


The Transition Committee Chairman of Onitsha North, Mr. Patrick Aghamba, who also attended the event, noted that Governor Obiano’s confidence in youth leadership has continued to pay off making a reference to Engineer Okonkwo’s time in office, which he described as exemplary.

The Dunukofia Local Government chapter of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees, NULGE, later presented a meritorious service award to Engineer Okonkwo.

In attendance at the function were the member representing Onitsha South, Constituency One at the state House of Assembly, Honourable Uzoma Eli, that of Onitsha South Two, Honourable Beverly Nkemdiche-Ikpeazu, and their Aguata Constituency Two counterpart, Honourable Cater Umeh among others.
