Anambra State Government says it has installed incinerators in public hospitals across the state for disposal of biological waste.
The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Vincent Okpala disclosed this while defending the 2021 budget estimate of the ministry before the House committee on Health in Awka.
House of Assembly Correspondent, Chukwuemeka Modilim reports that Dr. Okpala who described the project as the first of its kind in the history of Anambra State commended Governor Willie Obiano for investing meaningfully in health to meet the health needs of the people.
Dr. Okpala who noted that 2020 has been a challenging year to the ministry of health as COVID-19 stopped them from accomplishing most of their projects stated that they will surpass their 2020 budget performance in 2021fiscal year.
The Commissioner emphasized that in 2021 there will be improvement in revenue generation, establishment of cancer testing centres in public hospitals, COVID-19 control, equipment of primary health centres among others.
On his part, the Chairman House Committee on Health, Dr. Nnamdi Umeh commended Governor Obiano for the wonderful jobs he did in containing the spread of corona virus in the state and charged the ministry of health to re-sensitize the people on the need to observe all the COVID-19 protocols to forestall further spread of the virus.
The legislator charged them to ensure that all the COVID -19 texting centres are well equipped to function effectively, even as he assured that his committee will always partner them to achieve a realistic budget .
