The Anambra State House of Assembly Committee on Finance and Appropriation has charged Ministries, Parastatals and Agencies to be more proactive to achieve a realistic budget.

The Chairman of the committee, Honourable Obinna Emeneka made the call while speaking to journalists to mark the end of the bilateral interaction on the 2021 Appropriation bill by the State House of Assembly with Ministries, Departments and Agencies in Awka.

House of Assembly Correspondent, Chukwuemeka Modilim was there and reports that Chief Emeneka who expressed satisfaction with the success of the exercise noted that it provided an opportunity for MDAS to answer questions from the House regarding their 2020 budget, their projections for 2021 fiscal year, and what they want to spend in the year to justify the content of the 2021 Appropriation bill.

Chief Emeneka stated that from their interactions with the MDAS, the House observed that the Obiano administration has employed aggressive revenue drive without increasing tax, automation of internally generated revenue and enforcement to revive the state economy adversely affected by the global COVID-19 pandemic and worsened by the #EndSARS protest.

He pointed out that the title of the 2021 Appropriation bill which is “Economic Recovery and Consolidation will be achieved through improved IGR and blockage of the loop holes through which revenue is diverted to private pockets.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner for Youth Empowerment and Creative Economy, Professor Theresa Obiekezie has expressed the commitment of the ministry to empower thousands of youths in various vocations of their choice in 2021.

Professor Obiekezie who disclosed this while defending the budget estimate of her ministry before the House committee on Youth Development revealed that they will support thousands of youths that have been trained with loans in order to establish their own businesses and become entrepreneurs.
