The Catholic Church today marked the solemnity of Christ the King.
The solemnity which is also known as Corpus Christi is originally celebrated on June every year, but was shifted to November due to the climate condition of the nation.
The celebration of Christ the King is a universal celebration whereby Christ is shown to the entire world which has no territorial limit.
It is always celebrated with a procession by different parishes, matching with colorful songs to the cathedral parish of the Diocese.
Addressing the crowd, the Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Rev. Paulinus Ezeokafor, said the solemnity indicates that Jesus Christ is the father and King of all Universe stressing the importance of following Christ to have eternal reward.
The Prelate said the essence of the celebration is to show manifestation of Christ to mankind.
He said that this year’s Corpus Christi will be done at different parishes to avoid large crowd, urging Christians all over the world to allow Christ take prominence in their lives.
At Regina Caeli Hospital Chaplaincy, the Resident Priest, Reverend Father Leo Okoye,said the solemnity indicates that Jesus Christ is the father and King of all Universe who suffered and conquered death to give Christains salvation.
In a church service at the Church of Pentecost, Government House Awka, the Vicar, Reverend Cannon Ifeanyi Emegwa whose sermon centered on the importance of testimony in Christian’s life emphasized that the year 2020 is filled with challenges and hiccups, but nevertheless it is paramount to always testify the goodness of God towards their lives.
Equally, the General Overseer, Jesus Everlasting Evangelical Ministry Awka, Apostle Isreal Mmadubueze who spoke on the theme “God’s Providence For Believers”, noted that the world and human life is full of physical and unseen battles but revealed that the supreme God never forsake His people.
Meanwhile, Mrs Ifechukwu Obidike of the News and Current Affairs of ABS also used the day to thank God for adding another remarkable age to her.
The various church services featured praises, prayer and thanksgivings.
