The event which took place at the Dr. Alex Ekwueme Square, in Awka also witnessed the inauguration of Anambra State government and Central Bank Commercial Agriculture training Scheme two billion naira loan.
Government House Correspondent, Ejike Abana reports that the theme for this year’s world food day is “Industrial cluster farming for agro-business sustainability.”
Performing the functions Governor Obiano expressed his administration’s renewed commitment to sustain investment in agriculture, saying that this year’s inauguration is coming when the nation’s economy is sliding into another round of recession in four years.
Governor Obiano said that it is gratifying to disburse cheques to beneficiaries of the agriculture credit schemes funded by the Central Bank of Nigeria, aimed at supporting the agro-enterprise dreams of Ndi Anambra.
The Governor, while appreciating the achievements of major agro investors who answered his Aku Luo Uno call expressed satisfaction with the agricultural revolution in the State.
He pledged to continue to build on the solid foundation he has laid in agriculture, adding that it is evident that Anambra state can develop new capacities and expand the frontiers of development under a determined and visionary leadership.
The Commissioner for Agriculture, Chief Nnamdi Onukwuba said that Governor Obiano has continued to work towards food security in the state through boosting agriculture especially in this economic downturn resulting from COVID-19 pandemic.
While stressing that rice production in the state has increased to four hundred and forty thousand metric tonnes in 2020, representing one thousand and eighty-two percent increase, the Commissioner noted that recent trends in the Country justifies the Governor’s decision to make agriculture the number one pillar of this administration, urging more Ndi Anambra to key into the Ugbo Azuno initiative.
In a goodwill messages, the Deputy Manager of the Central Bank of Nigeria in charge of Development Finance, Mr. Ogbu Sunday explained that there is a long existing relationship between the bank and Anambra state government while Mr. Kelis Felix from the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, noted that the ministry noticed that farmers in Anambra have embraced dry season farming, particularly in rice farming.
The Chairman of Willie Obiano Support Group, Chief Jude Emecheta and an APGA Chieftain, Chief Titus Anagbogu said that APGA-led administration has continued to show the light, urging the Governor to sustain the tempo.
Disbursement of inputs for dry season farming, launching of Anambra State agriculture compendium, among others featured at the event.
