The metropolitan and Archbishop of Onitsha Ecclesiastical Province, Most Reverend Valerian Okeke has described partnership between the church and the government as the best approach towards raising children with good morals and academic excellence to impact positively on the society.

Most Reverend Okeke stated in a homily during a pontifical high mass to celebrate sixtieth anniversary of Father Joseph Memorial High School Aguleri.

The mass which was also attended by the auxiliary Bishop of Onitsha Archdiocese Most Reverend Dennis Isizo, over thirty priests, members of Father Joseph Aguleri Old Boys Association, students and teachers of the school as well as parents, friends and well wishers featured administration of sacrament of confirmation on over one hundred students of the school by the Archbishop.

In a homily on the topic “Fr Joseph High School after sixty years, what next” Archbishop Okeke thanked God that many decades after the war , the school is still standing, commending government for all its efforts and everyone who contributed to the growth of the school since after the war.

Most Reverend Okeke thanked especially Governor Willie Obiano for building a three thousand bedded hostel in the school which he said cannot be seen in any secondary school in Nigeria, and for giving the school a befitting field for outdoor games even as he appreciated former Governor Peter Obi , for returning schools back to the church.

Speaking shortly after the mass, Governor Obiano represented by his Chief of Staff, Chief Primus Odili explained that the present administration has been focused in uplifting and maintaining high educational standards in not just primary and secondary but also in tertiary institutions.

Governor Obiano charged the students to utilise the equipment and instructional materials at their disposal to better their standards promising to ensure that schools in Anambra state lack nothing to ensure more schools wins in both national and international competitions.

The member representing Anambra East and West Federal Constituency Honourable Chinedu Obidigwe, who is an old boy of the school, acknowledged that the school equipped him with necessary knowledge and skills to face the future.
Addressing the old boys, the National President of the Old Boys Association, Dr Emma Ude-Akpeh, said the school has trained a lot of personalities who have excelled and is still excelling in their various fields of endeavours , and charged the students to always remember that there is dignity in labour.


The oldest school boy Professor Felix Okafor , of 1960 to 1964 set, some members of the Old Boys Association including Mr. Amaechi Akaora, Sir Mike Obiajulu-Meze , Chief Alex Onukwue , and Vice Chairman Local Organising Committee of the event Mr. Mike Udah, thanked God that they passed through the school urging the students to always be disciplined and obey the school’s rules and regulation at all times.

The event also featured foundation laying of the three thousand sitting capacity auditorium and cutting of the anniversary cake by members of Father Joseph Aguleri Old Boys Association.
