Over one hundred widows and less privileged women in Nnokwa and environs, Idemili South council area, have benefitted from the 2020 Akachukwu Akonam Foundation Annual Widows Day, smiling home with food items including Rice, garri, noodles, and food ingredients.

The event which has become an annua levent for the past eleven years was held at the arena of St Stephens Anglican Church Nnokwa.


Every last Saturday of November has become a special day for Widows in Nnokwa as the day has been set aside by Akachukwu Akonam Foundation to celebrate with the Widows.

This last Saturday was not different as widows were gathered in their numbers to receive their Christmas package from Akachukwu Akonam Foundation.
Addressing the Windows, Anambra First Lady, Dr Mrs Ebelechukwu Obiano, urged them to always live in love and harmony and also be more committed in the things of God.

Dr Mrs Obiano represented by the Senior Special Assistant to the governor on Social Re-Orientation, Dr Mitchelle Onugbolu commended the foundation and those that have supported in different ways noting that the initiative is inline with the believe of Caring Family Enhancement Initiative.

In his remarks, the founder and principal promoter of the foundation, Engineer Simon Ukpaka who encouraged the Widows to trust in God, pointed out the need for them to acquire skills or set up businesses . He assured them of empowerment and loans to support their businesses, next year to enable them fend for themselves.

Engineer Ukpaka further appreciated those that donated to the course for their consistency in supporting the foundation. He particularly thanked the Wife of the Governor of Anambra state, Dr Mrs Ebelechukwu Obiano, who donated one hundred bags of 10kg rice to the foundation.


The Coordinator, Widows Fellowship Nnokwa, Mrs Chioma Ani and another beneficiary, Mrs Christiana Obiekwe thanked the foundation and noted that COVID -19 pandemic did not negatively affect this year’s Widows Day.

On his part, the Vicar, Saint Stephen’s Anglican Parish Nnokwa, Reverend Cannon Michael Amaegbu stressed that there is more blessing in given describing humanitarian service as the best way to serve God.

The event which began with observation of one minute silence in respect of four departed windows within the last one year ,featured prayer session, march pass, concert and welcome song by the windows.

The traditional ruler of Nnokwa, Igwe Emmanuel Ajamma was represented on the occasion by a member of Igwe in Council, Nnokwa, Chief Ikenna Ogbukagu.
