The Center for Entrepreneurial Studies Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University has organised two day Employment Readiness and Job creation Programme for final year students of the Center to prepare them to face the labour market.

The event which attracted final year students from other departments took place at the Ben Nwazojie Law Auditorium, Igbariam campus of the University.

While addressing students at the event, the Vice Chancellor Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Professor Greg Nwakoby represented by the Dean Student Affairs Dr Mathias Ananti, commended the school management and especially the organisers of the event noting that the programme will expose final year students to many opportunities on how to earn a living after school.

Earlier in an address, the Director Cente for Entrepreneurship COOU, Professor Vincent Ezeabasili, said the programme which they started since 2012 was in line with the directives by the National University Commission that every University must have such entrepreneurial center so that students will leave universities well equipped.


Professor Ezeabasili explained that since then, they have been graduating students who have been doing wonderfully well in terms of skills and job creation, advising the final year students to be focused especially now that they are leaving school.

In a lecture titled “Leadership, Networking And Entrepreneurship, a lead paper presenter Professor Charles Onugu who shared life experiences with the students said that in order to prepare them for life after school, it would be appropriate to expose them to what leadership is all about since they are going to become employers of labour and job creators of enterprises . Professor Onugu noted that leadership is all about being able to galvanise people to work towards achieving a profitable result, urging them to endeavour to be selfless leaders that also want the good of others.

In their various lectures on Leadership, Networking and Entrepreneurship, building blocks of creative economy the Anambra state Director National Orientation Agency, Sir Charles Nworji and Chris Ify -Okonkwo who also delivered a paper on same topic underscored qualities of a good leader and the importance of networking with people of like minds if one must survive the harsh economic situation of the country.

They advised the students to brace for the competition in the open market and endeavour to be unique such that they will attract patronisers to themselves no matter the situation.

Some of the participants at the programme including Miss Ogechukwu Nwankwo and Mr O.J Brain Iwuchukwu expressed appreciation to the organisers of the programme noting that with what they have learnt, they are no longer afraid to leave school as they are better equipped to face life after school.
