The International Community is observing today as Human Rights Day.
The day is aimed at bringing to the fore the inalienable rights which everyone is entitled to regardless of race, colour, religion, sex, language, political among others.

Correspondent, Emmanuel Okonkwo reports that while speaking on the importance of the day, the Special Adviser to Governor Willie Obiano on Disability Matters, Mr. Chuks Ezewuzie emphasized that people in this part of the world should learn to respect other people’s rights so as to enthrone a more peaceful and conducive society for all.

Mr Ezewuzie who regretted that a lot of people trample upon the rights of disabled persons in today’s society, advocating for the protection of the rights of people living with disabilities.

On his part, a legal practitioner, Mike Anyadiegwu noted that human rights have constitutional backing and should be respected by all no matter the class in the society, attributing the cause of the recent EndSARS protest in Nigeria to abuse and infringement on the rights of the citizenry, saying that leadership of the country must learn to respect the rights of their subjects irrespective of social, economic, and education status to avert the likes of the protest in near future.

Another respondent, Mr Jude Emeka stressed the need for people to stand up for their rights and that of others.
The theme for this year’s event is” Recover Better, Stand Up For Human Rights “.
