The National Population Commission, NPC, has commenced the training of field workers for the phase eleven of its Enumeration Area Demarcation in Orumba North, Orumba South, and Awka North Local Government Areas.
The training, which is a-five-day intensive physical and academic exercise, is currently taking place in Awka, with over ninety participants.
An enumeration area demarcation is a census preparatory exercise, where a geographical area, composed of one or more adjacent blocks is covered and counted by a census representative to ensure effective census coverage.
Briefing journalists on the preparedness of the Commission, the chairman, National Population Commission, Mr. Nasir Kwarra, represented by the NPC Federal Commissioner in-charge of Anambra State, Mr. Chidi Ezeoke, said they will also assist INEC to create digitalized maps for modern INEC registration.
He charged the field demarcators to be upright and diligent in their duties and avoid unnecessary mistakes that could mar the efforts put in place for a clearer and adequate demarcation.
According to the NPC chairman, deployment of the enumerators to various communities in the selected three local government areas for the demarcation exercise will commence on December seventeenth 2020 through January twentieth 2021.
He appealed to community and religious leaders, individuals and other stakeholders to avail the enumerators’ access into their localities to number and divide houses into smaller units using satellite maps.
While assuring the Federal Commissioner of their full support and compliance, the traditional ruler of Awbaofe-Mmili, Awka North council area, Igwe Ezekwesili Maduagwuna extolled the commission for its inclusiveness.
