Governor Willie Obiano has called on Wards Development Committee Chairmen to ensure that right persons benefit from the state government’s Basic Healthcare Intervention Fund project.

The Governor made the call in a meeting with three hundred and thirty Wards Development Chairmen in the state at Professor Dora Akunyili Women Development Centre Awka.

Our Government House Correspondent, Emmanuel Okonkwo reports that the Basic Healthcare Intervention Fund is a scheme introduced by the state government through the Anambra State Health Insurance Agency, to carter for the hospital bill of indigent persons in communities across the state.

Under the scheme the three hundred and thirty wards in the state are to benefit monthly eighty-eight thousand, two hundred and forty-six naira that will be disbursed to eighty-five indigent persons to carter for their health needs, while forty-eight thousand, four hundred and fifty naira will be monthly paid to each of the three hundred and thirty wards for rehabilitation and maintenance of primary healthcare centres in the wards.

Governor Willie Obiano who was represented by his Deputy, Dr Nkem Okeke asked the chairmen to be ensure right selection of the eighty-five beneficiaries and to avoid any form of partiality and preferential treatment.

The Governor used the opportunity to encourage Ndi Anambra to protect themselves from Covid-19 by obeying all the COVID-19 safety laws.

Earlier in a remark, the state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Vincent Okpala reminded people of the state that Coronavirus still exists and kills hence the need for them to properly guard themselves.

On his part, the Executive Secretary Anambra State Health Insurance Agency, Dr. Simeon Onyemaechi explained that the scheme is not meant for indigent persons that are already being sponsored under ASHIA.
