Anambra State Deputy Governor, Dr. Nkem Okeke, has called on the people to have compassion and touch humanity positively irrespective of their economic status.
Deputy Governor Okeke made the call during the tenth anniversary celebration of Senator I. G. Abana Foundation, held at Uruekwo Primary School Enugu-Ukwu, Njikoka Council Area.


The Deputy Governor commended the founder, Senator Godson Abana, for using his foundation in affecting the lives of the less privileged and prayed God to prolong his life.
While breaking the kolanut, the traditional ruler of Enugwu-Ukwu, Igwe Raph Ekpe, told the people to always extend a helping hand to those in need no matter how little as God loves a cheerful giver.

In his address, the founder, Senator Abana, recalled how the foundation began in 2010 carrying out humanitarian programmes, which include free medical services, scholarship schemes, financial empowerment and empowerment for unemployed youths among others.


He appealed to the people to join him in thanking God, who has been sustaining the foundation, and for the members of the Board of Trustees as well as the medical officials working with the foundation.
In an interview, the MD/CEO of Anambra Broadcasting Service, Dr. Uche Nworah, expressed happiness with what Senator I.G. Abana Foundation is doing in the state describing it as a way of heeding to the Aku-Lue-Uno call of Governor Willie Obiano administration and called on other wealthy Ndi Anambra, who are yet to heed to the call to join the train.

In their separate remarks, two guests from Imo State, Dr. Iloabuchi Ilo and Mr. Emmanuel Ugo, described Senator I G Abana Foundation as a laudable programme that is worthy of emulation.


The President General, Enugwu-Ukwu Community Development Union, Comrade Bonny Ozo Nkwuaku, who commended Senator Abana for setting up the Foundation, beckoned on others to key in for the betterment of the poorest of the poor in the community pledging their unalloyed support.

On their parts, some of the beneficiaries, including Mrs. Josephine Ozugbo, Mrs. Ngozi Okolo and Mr. Gabriel Emecheta, spoke about the Foundation in glowing terms.

Some of the dignitaries that attended the event were the member representing Njikoka and Dunukofia Federal Constituency, Honourable Dozie Nwankwo and the member representing Njikoka Constituency at the state House of Assembly, Honourable Timothy Ifedioramma.

The event featured free medical services, distribution of food stuff, presentation of scholarships and youth empowerment among others.
