The Member Representing Anambra East and West at the House of Representatives, Chief Chinedu Obidigwe has called on youths to eschew restiveness, social ills and drug abuse so as to achieve their potential in life.

Chief Obidigwe made the call at Ugwunaadagbe Primary School Field, Aguleri, Anambra East Council Area during the 2020 Youth Day Celebration of Aguleri National Youth Association, ANYA.

The day which was to channel the minds of the youths to something meaningful and expose them to inherent dangers of drug abuse brought together members of the association from different parts of the country.

 

Chief Obidigwe while addressing the gathering, extolled ANYA President and his executive for the wonderful work they are doing in bringing the youths together towards channeling their minds to a positive cause as it will help to change the perception people have about their community.

The Lawmaker applauded Governor Willie Obiano for the massive work he is doing in attracting development to the area and stated that as the federal lawmaker representing the constituency, he has provided solar lights to Enugwu-Otu, Mkpunando, Nzam and Umuoba and has ensured that the Umueze Anam-Kogi road was budgeted in the new fiscal year.

 

The traditional ruler of Aguleri, Eze Michael Idigo, his Mkpunando counterpart, Eze Johnson Mbanefo and that of Eziagulu-Otu Aguleri, Eze Lawrence Nwofia said that with such programms, the youths will know their roots and champion peace among themselves as well as their neighbouring communities.

 

The President General of Aguleri, Barrister Hippolite Onwuegbuke promised that the community will not leave any stone unturned in ridding the community off drugs and all forms of criminals.

Earlier in his address of welcome, the National President of ANYA Aguleri, Chief Nnamdi Ikeli-Adimorah sued for peace, brotherliness, oneness and love, while reminding members of the association of their resolution to clamp down on illicit drug trafficking.

 

The programme featured a lecture presentation by the Secretary, Anambra State Drugs Control Committee, Mr Christopher Adabo who encouraged parents to teach their wards good societal values.

 

The theme of the youth Day celebration is “Empowering the Youths for a Better Tomorrow” while the presentation of prizes for ANYA football competition winners by Chief Chinedu Obidigwe and other displays by the youths formed the highlights of the celebration.
