Governor Willie Obiano yesterday attended the one hundred and twenty first Ovala of Aguleri ancient kingdom.
The event was also the second Ovala of the traditional ruler of Aguleri, Igwe Michael Idigo the fifth.
The event took place at Amaigwe Square Aguleri.
The sound of Ikolo Aguleri, signalled the arrival of Governor Obiano who was given a hearty reception as he went round the square to welcome their guests .
The Governor’s arrival paved way for the first outing of Igwe Idigo into the arena but not before the outing of the wife of Igwe Idigo.
Delivering his Ovala address, Igwe Idigo regretted that the dreaded COVID 19 brought about set back to growth and development of all sectors of the economy, but thanked God for protecting   Aguleri and indeed all parts of the state , a reason he named it “Ovala amala chineke”.
Igwe Idigo while  commending  Governor Obiano for his numerous achievements in the state, extolled  the religious, Ndi Ichie, Ndi Oji Ana, Ndi Oji Ala Uno, members of the Igwe’s Cabinet, Umu Ada and Inyo Umu Ana, Inyom  Umuokechi , government functionaries, friends and well wishers and all their guests for honouring the event.
The member representing Anambra East and West Federal Constituency Chief Chinedu Obidigwe who is a member of the Cabinet said that Aguleri has a very rich culture which people from other climes  emulate, adding that it has continued to turn out better as the years go by.
Speaking at the event, the Commissioner for Public Utilities, Engineer Emeka Ezenwanne and his Agriculture, Mechanisation and Food Processing counterpart Mr Nnamdi Onukwuba, and former Commissioner for Health,  Dr Joe Akabuike said they always identify with Igwe Idigo because of their relationship with him and because of the unique nature of the rich culture of Ndi Aguleri.
In their separate speeches, the immediate member that represented Anambra Central in the red chambers Senator Victor Umeh and the traditional ruler of Nteje Igwe Rowland Odegbo who is also the Co -chairman ABS Board of Directors prayed God to continue to guide and protect Igwe Idigo, Aguleri community and the entire Anambra state noting  that Igbo cultural heritage is being preserved through festivals like ovala.
An Enugwu-Ukwu born philanthropist  Chief Austine Oguejiofor, an Aguleri Chieftain and the Managing Director Anambra Broadcasting Service ,Chief Uche Nworah,said that they  attended  the event because of the significance Aguleri holds in Igbo history and because the people  promote the rich culture of Ndi igbo just like Enugwu-Ukwu does with the Igu Aro Festival.
The chairman of the 121 Ovala Aguleri Chief Tony Oli of Anambra State Sports Commission and another member of the Committee Chief Amaechi Akora of ASWAMA , thanked God for the success of the event as they attributed the huge presence of people at the event to the peaceful disposition  of Igwe Idigo.
Meanwhile, Chief of Staff to the Governor Chief Primus Odili was conferred with the title of Mkpologwu -Okosis Aguleri making him a member of the Igwe’s cabinet while the National Chairman of APGA Chief Victor Oye was conferred with the title of Akaamalu of Aguleri.
