Urumkpu Patriotic Union, Umuoji, Idemili North Local Council Area, has kicked off the New Year with the commissioning of a multi-million naira Civic Center, award ceremony and launching of twenty-million naira education endowment fund.

The event, held at the new Urumkpu Civic Center, was attended by government functionaries, Urumkpu Patriotic Union executive, illustrious sons and daughters of the village both at home and in the diaspora among others.

Urumkpu Village Umuoji is made up of four kindreds and by the current demographic figure, has a human population of over twenty thousand.

While commissioning the new Civic Centre built under the administration of the chairman of Urumkpu Patriotic Union, Mr. Dom Ekpunobi, the transition Committee Chairman of Idemili North Local Government Area, Barrister Asha Nnabuife, represented by his Onitsha South counterpart, Mr. Emeka Asoanya, applauded Urumkpu Village for embracing unity, peace and progress.

Barrister Nnabuife urged members of the village to take full ownership of the project, manage it properly and generate revenue for the development of the area.

On his part, the President General of Umuoji Improvement Union, Chief Silas Onyima, while praising the village for its unity, described the hall as the most modern in Umuoji Community and called for more developmental projects.

Also speaking , the chairman of the Building Committee, Architect Tony Nwobbi, revealed that the edifice was built within a space of twelve months, observing that members of Urumkpu Village have demonstrated tremendous dedication to the cause from the formation period till date.

Earlier in his address, Mr. Ekpunobi, appreciated the people of Urumkpu for their consciousness on the need to stand out and take the lead in the comity of villages in Umuoji.

Other stakeholders, including the Regent of Umuoji, Chief Chris Nnedu, the chairman of the occasion, Mr. Innocent Ofoka, Chief Stephen Asoanya, Chief Anayo Okoye and Chief Ike Nsikah among others, thanked God for the successful completion of the project, and pledged to continue to support the growth and development of their village.
