The need for women to be united and fight social and economic ills affecting the female gender have once again come to the fore, as Iyom Odema Women Group of Orofia, Abagana celebrated their day.

Women  especially within the traditional Igbo society are challenged by  lots of social and economic ills and it is in the light of this that groups like Odema Women of Orofia, Abagana exists.

Speaking at the event,  the President of the group, Mrs. Bene Okonkwo explained that the group is a clan under Orofia village Abagana, which is divided into men and women groups and have existed for a very long time.

Mrs. Bene explained  that the group seeks to empower vulnerable members with resources to start up   businesses , as well as launch  a Rental Business to generate income for the group.

Giving more insight on the group, its Vice President, Mrs. Ifeoma Oli noted that the event seeks to unite the women, as they always teach skills to members and better ways to manage themselves and their homes.

The President General of Abagana Welfare Union, Mr. Remigus Onwuadi noted that the male wing  of the group  collaborates  with their female counterpart and commended  the current leadership of the group for its  achievements .

In their remarks, some guests who attended the event, including, Dr. Napoleon Onyechi, Dr. Chinedu Umeadi and Mr. Onyebuchi Onua advised the group to be agents of change and avoid power tussle.

The event featured cultural dance, award presentation, cutting of cake and lunching of the group almanac and songs.
