A Non-Governmental Organization, Illicit Drug Abuse Education, in collaboration with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, has organized a training of trainers’ workshop for National Youth Service Corps members on the dangers of hard drugs.

The Corps members were selected from the Federal Road Safety Corps, Community Development Service group of the NYSC.

The training, which took place at the FRSC headquarters in Awka, was aimed at educating and enlightening the corps members and the general public on the dangers and consequences of drug abuse.

Declaring the program open, the state Sector Commander, FRSC, Mr. Andrew Kumapayi, who spoke through the Deputy Corps Commander, Mr. Joseph Abua, commended the team for organizing the training, which he said will assist the command in achieving its set goals.

He advised the Corps members and the state citizenry to adhere strictly to the message against drug abuse.

The chairman, Illicit Drug Abuse Education, Mr. Gregory Anene, while listing alcohol, marijuana, tramadol, monkey tail, rubber solution and other forms of stimulants as drugs that are wildly abused, counseled the public to stay away from drugs and its attendant risks.

He appealed to the state government to continue to lend support to the Agency in order to ensure full eradication of the ugly trend that is increasingly overtaking the society.

The President of the CDS group, Mr. Emmanuel Iloegbu, disclosed that the exercise was designed to create more awareness on the dangers of illicit drugs abuse, and equipping the CDS group with more facts to carry out their services to the members of their various host communities.
