As Nigeria joins her counterpart to celebrate this year’s world cancer day, Experts have called for early preventive measures to avert the illness.

 

The call was made during the 2021 World Cancer Day Campaign organized by Development Initiative for Technology and Employment in collaboration with Anambra State Library Board and a non-Governmental Organisation held at Onitsha Divisional Library.

This year’s theme is “I am and I will learn, screen and live.

 

The campaign which commenced with aerobics also featured Health talk on cancer by Dr. Emeka Ezeazor.

 

In his lecture, Dr. Ezeazor stressed the need for people to be mindful of their diet and the life style they live which according to him are the risk factors of cancer.

 

He maintained that cancer is an abnormal growth in the body which can affect any part of the body and does not segregate age bracket as it can also affect a new born baby.

Dr Ezeazor advised for regular checks by both men and women for early detection as he said cancer can be cured if detected early.

 

Speaking to the ABS in separate interviews, the Convener Mrs. Ngozi Osuchukwu and the Director Anambra state Divisional Library Dr. Nkechi Udeze said the campaign was to create awareness for people to know the importance of checking themselves regularly to guard against cancer.

 

An aerobics expert, Miss Amarachi Egwuzo, underscored the importance of physical exercise to human body which according to her takes care of sixty percent of diseases in the human body and called on both men and women to keep fit

 

Some of the participants at the event expressed joy at what they learnt from the health talk describing it as an eye opener and promised to put into practice what they have learnt.
