Six people arrested during an enforcement exercise by the Anambra State Physical Planning Board at Nkpor and Obosi Communities have been arraigned before a Magistrate Court in Awka presided over by Magistrate Anyaegbunam Nonyelum on a four count charge.

Correspondent, Ejike Abana reports that the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice in Anambra State and Anambra State Physical Planning Board are the complainants while the defendants are Charles Okolo, Desmond Chikwe and Nwaorinta Chidozie.

Others are Ogboke Ekene, Jude Okechukwu and Ude Chilota.

The Case with Charge reads that Charles Okolo, Desmond Chikwe, Nwaorinta Chidozie, Ogboke Ekene, Jude Okechukwu, Ude Chilota with some other persons who are at large carried out development, building operation without approval.

They were also charged and arraigned for hindering, obstructing and impeding authorized Physical Planning Board officers in the performance of their lawful duty and power contained in the same law.

The third charge reads that they blocked a passage way by developing and building a house without approval in Anambra state, contrary to the provisions of the same law, while disregarding the STOP WORK ORDER NOTICE and continued on the site without building permit thereby committing an offence contrary to the law.

Recall that the Board recently carried out development control exercise at Emmanuel Street, Nkpor and Obosi in Idemili North Local Government Area where some individuals blocked people’s access to their houses and the street and commenced construction of a new building on the portion.

The matter was adjourned to second March, 2021, while  those arrested were remanded in custody at the Nigeria Correctional Service, Awka until the next adjourned date.

Speaking on the development, the Executive Chairman Anambra State Physical Planning Board, Mr. Chike Maduekwe said that two weeks ago, they got information that people were building on the road, blocking access to the area  after which they served them notice to stop work but to no avail.
