The new Anambra state Commissioner of Police, Mr Monday Bala Kuryas has assured to leverage on the success of the predecessor, AIG John Abang, and fashion out new modalities to curb crime and criminality in the state.

 

Mr Kuryas stated this while addressing top police officers and Journalists at the state Police Headquarters in Amawbia, Awka South council area.

 

Correspondent, Emmanuel Okonkwo reports that the new CP was on arrival warmly welcomed at the state Police Headquarters, by senior Police Officers who came from various Police Area Commands and Divisional Police Stations in the state.

 

CP Kuryas said that his office is already prepared to address criminal and security challenges in the state, including armed robbery, kidnapping, cultism, illegal revenue collections, farmers and herders clash, among others, and asked perpetrators of such acts to desist forthwith or face the full wrath of the law.

He disclosed that the command will reinvigorate operation Puff Adder two, as one of the stringent measures to fight crime in Anambra.

 

Mr Kuryas who assured Ndi Anambra both at home and in the diaspora that the command under his watch will continue to work assiduously to sustain the status of Anambra as the safest state in the country, asked people of the state and the officers to give him all the necessary support to enable him actualize the lofty vision he has for the state.

 

On his part, Anambra state Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Comrade Emma Ifesinachi thanked the new Commissioner of Police  for  press briefing , describing the gesture as an indication that the CP will sustain the relationship established by his predecessor, Mr Abang, between the press and police in the state.

Decoration of one hundred and sixty-nine newly promoted officers from Inspector to Assistant Superintendent of Police, from Assistant Superintendent of Police to Deputy Superintendent of Police, and others from Deputy Superintendent of Police to Superintendent of Police also featured at the event.

 

In their various speeches, some of the officers promoted from the rank of Inspector to Assistant Superintendent of Police, including Esther Ikeobi, and Desmond Ezeihe thanked IG of police for their elevation and promised to put in more efforts in discharging their duties.
