The Anambra State Library Board has marked the International Women’s Day by calling on women to challenge barriers militating against fulfilling their potential.
Queen Anigbogu reports that the event which took place at Akili Ogidi, in Ogbaru Local Government Area, attracted women and girls from the community.
Speaking at the occasion, the Director Anambra State Library Board, Dr Nkechi Udeze, explained the importance of education and its numerous benefits.
She pointed out that good character and education can open closed doors and take the educated ones to higher position in life.
Dr Udeze mentioned women achievers like Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Chimamanda Adichie, and Senator Stella Odua who she said are where they are today because they are educated.
In a unanimous voice vote, all the women and girls called for encouragement to enable them go to school and be educated.
The traditional ruler of Akili-Ogidi, Igwe Obi Izukanne, thanked Anambra State Library Board for their visit noting that it shows that the development of the community is of interest to them.
One of the women, Mrs Theresa Udeogu, while commending Governor Willie Obiano for his visionary leadership appealed for construction of road and pipe born water in the community.
Others who spoke including Mrs Mary Olisamma and Mrs Victoria Osagi, thanked the women for coming out in Mass.
