The Anambra State House of Assembly Committee on Public Petitions has called on Ezinano area Awka, to maintain peace over their parcel of Lands at New Town Layout, pending the resolution of the committee on the matter.
House of Assembly Correspondent, Chukwuemeka Modilim reports that the Chairman of the committee, Honorable Emeka Aforka made the call during their meeting with the Community and Ministry of Lands held at the Legislative Complex.
Honorable Aforka assured that his committee will do all the necessary investigations required to do justice to parcels of land in the layout, which is in dispute between the Ministry of Lands and Ezi na ano.
The legislator asked the Ministry of Lands and the people of Ezi na ano area to furnish his committee with all the necessary documents that will enable them to do a thorough and satisfactory job.
In his submission, Counsel to the petitioners, Mr. Emeka Agbapuonwu told the Committee that the parcels of Land at the layout being sold to developers were not part of the lands acquired by successive administrations and should be returned to the original owners.
Responding, the Commissioner for Lands, Mr. Bonaventure Enemali explained that government acquired all the Lands in the area legally and paid due compensation but revoked the ones sold to people who left them lying fallow for years.
Mr. Enemali also urged the Anambra State House of Assembly to take decisive actions on the indigenes of Awka, Onitsha and Nnewi who harass people from taking procession of their lands, duly allocated to them by Anambra state government, even after the lands have been acquired legally and proper compensations paid.
