The Faculty of Education Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Igbariam campus has organized her third International Multi-disciplinary Conference with the theme: “Education and Innovations for sustainable development in Africa”.
Education correspondent Theophilus Ukoha reports that the Conference had in attendance education stakeholders, Professors from various climes, with lead paper presenters to include Prof Uche Nzewi of the Department of Science Education University of Nigeria Nsukka , Professor Ike Akude, of Imo State University Owerri, among other discussants.
The Conference recommended that for development to thrive in Africa, education stakeholders have to inject more purposeful innovative strategies of international best practices.
The keynote speaker, Professor Mkpa Agu Mkpa, who is the former Vice Chancellor of Abia State University Uturu said that without conscious effort to inject meaningful and purposeful innovations, it will be very difficult for African nations to meet sustainable development goals.
The former Vice Chancellor of Abia State University posited that for African nations to survive future economic realities there is need to embrace alternative means like innovative learning spaces, interconnectivity, technological innovations, virtual classroom teaching among others.
The lead paper presenters, Professor Akude and Professor Nzewi, said Information Communication Technologies and innovative practices should be marched with actions to meet tomorrow’s educational challenges, while gender equality and quality education should be the engine to drive sustainable development in Africa.
Earlier while declaring the Conference open, the Vice Chancellor of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Professor Greg Nwakoby, represented by a Deputy Vice Chancellor, Ellis Idemobi, said the University is moving ahead of time in sustainable development innovations, with various departments in the institution producing machines to drive the process.
The Dean Faculty of Education of the University Professor Nnamdi Obikeze in his speech attributed Nigeria’s underdevelopment to lackadaisical attitude of governments and other stakeholders towards her educational system.
