Residents of the state have been urged to join hands with state government to achieve sustainable clean and healthy environment.

Speaking in Awka, the Managing Director of Anambra state Waste Management Authority-ASWAMA Mr Amechi Akorah said Willie Obiano’s administration in the last seven years invested huge resources and introduced innovations to entrench new sanitation culture in the state.

Paul Ezeoke  reports that Mr Akorah said the administration procured and distributed many heavy duty waste collection and disposal trucks, equipment and materials to various parts of the state for easy collection and evacuation of waste as well as placed refuse bins at strategic locations for residents to place their daily waste materials for easy collection and disposal by ASWAMA personnel.

He said the government has equally employed more workers as road sweepers and built serviceable dumpsite at Nkwelle-Ezunaka for effective waste management, while the on-going renovation of ASWAMA building is to accommodate medical waste department in line with global best practice in waste management.

According to the Managing Director, the Less Burnt for Cleaner Project at Okpuno Awka South Local Government Area was designed to reduce burning of waste and increase the conversion of waste into other uses such as organic manure for cleaner environment and would soon embark on production of tiles using plastics and nylons.

Also speaking , a former President General of Nnobi Town Union and a Medical Practitioner, Dr Mike Omenugha said Governor Obiano has within the last seven years redefined good governance and up lifted the quality of  life of the people, noting that the introduction of Anambra state Health Insurance Scheme and establishment of Oxygen Plant have enhanced effective Health system and brought quality healthcare Services to the doorsteps of the people especially the under privileged members of the society.

According to Dr Omenugha, the Governor’s security infrastructure has provided conducive atmosphere for socio economic and political activities while the revolution in the agricultural sector has enhanced food sufficiency and created huge employment opportunities for youths.

He said the Cargo Airport project at Umueri, the International Conference Centre and Stadium project in Awka are legacy projects that would benefit posterity, urging the people to continue to support his administration to complete its vision.
