The Director-General, Nigeria Center for Disease Control, Dr Chikwe Ihekweazu says the COVID-19 vaccine has proven to be more effective in saving lives.
Dr Ihekweazu stated this in Awka during his visit to inspect the already completed Anambra State Molecular Laboratory, at Amaku Awka.
Correspondent Valentine Mbadugha reports that Dr Ihekweazu revealed that over seventeen million people have received COVID-19 vaccine across the world and that the vaccine has proven to be very effective as cases have come down in countries that are vaccinating aggressively.
Dr Ihekweazu explained that his visit was not just to inspect the health facility in the State but also to encourage the State government and the frontline health workers for their great input in the fight against COVID-19.
Anambra State Commissioner for Health Dr Vincent Okpala in his remark appreciated the Nigeria Center for Disease Control for its support and assured of greater commitment in strengthening Anambra health sector.
On his part, the Executive Secretary, Anambra State Health Insurance Agency, Dr Simeon Onyemaechi who explained the importance of new Laboratory facility noted that the facility is a one stop shop for all viral hemorrhagic diseases.
The inspection tour began with a courtesy call on the Commissioner for Health where they discussed the progress and challenges with regards to COVID-19 vaccine and other related issues and as well brainstormed on the possible solutions for the interest of Ndi Anambra.
ABS gathered that before Now, Anambra State as well other South-East and South-South States use to take samples of infectious diseases to either Edo or Ebonyi State where the two National Reference Laboratories are in existence but the era has gone as Anambra State will on equipping the Molecular Laboratory at Amaku Awka commence the process of conducting samples with regards to viral hemorrhagic fever and diseases within the State.
