Women of child bearing age urged to  embrace family planning to  prevent maternal, infant and child mortality in the state.

The Anambra state media Focal Person Development Network, Mrs Franca Maduike made  the call  knmm during   a one day review meeting aimed at strengthening the already built Capacity of government, information Officers and Journalists from  Electronic media and bloggers held at ABS Mutipurpose ,Awka.

Our correspondent Nneka Anoliefo reports that  Mrs Madike who is also ABS UNICEF desk officer explained that family planning is one of the most cost effective way to prevent maternal, infant and child mortality.

She also called on  husband and mother inlaws to give adquate support and encouragement to their wives to promote family planning. 

She explained  that family planning  help women of reproductive age to determine the number and spacing of their children and prevent  unintended pregnancies and abortions.

In their separate remarks some journalists present were of the opinion that joint efforts is needed from individuals, groups and  religious bodies with  government taking a leadership role in promoting the practice  of family planning  .

They  affirmed  that family planning enable women of child bearing age regain their health after delivery and as well as give enough time and opportunity to love and provide attention to their husbands and children.

The Newsmen  added  that when suffering from illness, family planning also gives mothers  enough time for treatment and recovery and further promotes social and economic development in society.
