Series of activities lined up to mark the three years of Right Reverend Samuel Chukwudi Ezeofor as the Bishop of Aguata Diocese will come to climax on Saturday, April 3, 2021 with the dedication of two projects by 10 am. The two projects, which are the brain child of Bishop Ezeofor, are an ultramodern Aguata Diocesan Secretariat and Gosife Micro Finance Bank, all located at Ekwulobia, the seat of Aguata Diocese.

The secretariat is part of measures to create more office accommodation for Diocesan workers because since its inauguration on September 4, 2005, Aguata Diocese has been using a Hall at the Cathedral Church of Saint John Ekwulobia as a temporary office. The Secretariat has thirty offices, aside reception, two waiting lounge, a conference Hall, Chapel, library, studio and offices for the Bishop and his Wife.

Bishop Ezeofor, who was enthroned as the Bishop of Aguata Diocese on April 3, 2018 following the retirement of the pioneer Bishop, Most Reverend Christian Ogochukwu Efobi, established the Gosife Micro Finance Bank to boost the revenue profile of the Diocese and generate employment.

Apart from the projects that will be dedicated, there are many others in the Diocese, including the construction of Aguata Diocesan Retreat and Pastoral Centre at Ndikelionwu and the establishment of Diocesan Radio and Television, among others.

Shortly after his inauguration, Bishop Ezeofor, who was translated to Aguata from Ogbaru Diocese, rolled out his four point agenda, anchored on promoting discipleship, family life, human and physical development and evangelism.

The bishop, at his first meeting with Diocesan officials and board members, set up various committees. The committees are those of Project and Investment, Evangelism and Bible Study, Works and Lands, Education Board, Vision and Mission, among others. He also enlarged the Diocesan legal team from three to nine with Justice Peter Obiora as the Diocesan Chancellor. He also introduced series of religious programmes, including: Fresh Grace From Above; Single and Sensible for Youths; Diocesan Covenant Week; Diocesan Worship and Word Conference, Berach Night of Glory, Open Heavens and others.

The Diocese has a Radio programme titled, “Moment of Grace” on ABS Radio that comes up every Sunday by 5.30 pm. All these are part of efforts by Bishop Ezeofor to redirect the people of Aguata Diocese on the path of moral glory. Due to the peaceful attribute of Bishop Ezeofor, he was conferred with a Peace Ambassador award by the United Nations.

To be in touch with the people of Aguata Diocese, in the Diaspora, Bishop Ezeofor has set up Aguata Diocesan Diaspora Commission while another commission was set up to take care of the aged and old in the Diocese. There is also a widow’s commission.

One remarkable thing Bishop Ezeofor did on assumption of office was the reduction of various levies imposed on the congregation during Church functions, which has continued to attract commendations from members of the Diocese. To boost the ministerial skills of the clergy and workers, the Bishop introduced trainings, workshops, and retreat for them and their wives.

He has also introduced some reforms in schools owned by the Diocese, including Archbishop Christian Efobi Seminary, Ekwulobia, Saint Mary the Virgin Covent, Ufuma and Saint Catherine’s Comprehensive Secondary School, Nanka. All these are achievements of Right Reverend Samuel Ezeofor in Aguata Diocese within three years.

Under the Women’s Ministry, its President and wife of the Bishop, Chinyere Hulda Ezeofor, Nnechukwunyere, is always in touch with Vice Presidents of various Women’s Ministry in the fifteen Archdeaconries of the Diocese, who are the wives of archdeacons. She always approves trainings and skills acquisition, capacity building for them.

So, as Aguata Diocese dedicates some projects, our prayer is that the Almighty God will continue to give Bishop Ezeofor and his wife, Chinyere, the wisdom as they pilot the affairs of the Diocese. To God be the Glory.

Aguata Diocese, Lampada Christi.
