Anambra State Ministry of Justice has filed papers at the State High Court, Neni, for the commencement of trial of principal suspects in connection with the murder of one Miss Chinenye Promise Nwoye, an undergraduate of University of Benin, who was strangled to death at a hotel in Abagana, Njikoka Local Government Area of the State.

 

Correspondent, Joseph Egbeocha reports that nine witnesses have been lined up by the Prosecution counsel.

However, the nationwide strike action embarked upon by the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria, JUSUN, may have contributed to delay in the trial of the suspects

 

Miss Nwoye, who hails from Ire village Abba, was reportedly strangled to death inside room fifty-seven Akuu Hotel in Abagana, Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State, after she was lured to the facility for the dastardly act on the 27th day of August, 2020.

 

Principal suspect in the matter, Kingsley Ogbonnaya, aged twenty-four, from Amovu, Arochukwu in Abia State and Chinedu Igwilo, presently at large, were accused of killing the victim by binding her hands and feet, and strangling her, which led to asphyxiation and eventual death.

The deceased, who had been laid to rest months back, was said to be on scholarship at the UNIBEN, and had opted for Computer lesson at Abagana, following the outbreak of COVID-19 for which schools were closed.
