The Governor of Anambra state, Chief Willie Obiano has reiterated his resolve to bequeath legacies that will restore the pride of ndi Anambra and reposition the state for greatness in the near future, stating that history will be kind to him for his stewardship and records of stellar achievements.

Gov Obiano made this known during the launch of the book: ‘Governor Willie Obiano, 7 Years of Delivering Good Governance in Anambra State 2014-2021’, wednesday, April 21, 2021 at the Dora Akunyili centre, Awka.

Speaking at the event Gov. Obiano declared that his administration would end strong and bequeath lasting Iegacies to ndi Anambra. He noted that among numerous projects executed by his administration, the Anambra State International Cargo/ Passenger Airport stands out as a project he is particularly proud of.

“In less than two years, we succeded in building a world class airport with top notch facilities – the only one with Satellite Landing System in sub Saharan Africa. In the past seven years we have also delivered projects that will reposition Anambra for a greater future”, he said.

Gov Obiano listed some achievements of his administration to include the construction of 17 bridges, 215 roads – 77 in the central senatorial district, 73 in the north and 65 in the south senatorial districts among others.

He observed that the administration undertook many projects including the novel N2Om community choose your project initiative, massive revolution and commercialization of agriculture, huge investments in education and health, infrastructural development, job creation and youth empowerment.

Commenting on the challenges of his administration, Gov Obiano observed that his administration remained focused on delivering good governance despite dwindling resources and the harsh realities of experiencing two economic recession.

Anambra state however, was not affected by the recession due to the effective and prudent management of resources by the Obiano administration. In fact it was during the first recession that the administration initiated the first phase of the N20m community choose your project programme. According to Gov. Obiano, “the initiative was a master stroke that ignited velocity of money in the state economy and ensured that the state escaped recession”.

It is also worthy of note that the airport project was started right in the middle of the Covid-19 induced recession but the Obiano administration remained resolute and continued the project without borrowing a dime. All the time, paying salaries and meeting other obligations of government.

Speaking on security, the governor assured ndi Anambra that his administration would work closely with security agencies to ensure that recent surge in crime and attacks on security formations is arrested promptly, and safety and security of lives and property restored in the state.

“I am delighted to announce that all nine gunmen who carried out the attack in Isuofia have been arrested. We will ensure that criminals are flushed out from the state. We will invade their hideouts and we will not take prisoners. A special team of the police, army, navy, DSS and the civil defense are already on this task”.

Continuing, Gov Obiano commended the editors of the book and the contributors. He also said that the book captured the pillars and enablers of his administration succinctly and encapsulated most of his achievements in the past seven years. He acknowledged the contribution of his team to the success of his administration noting that they made him proud.

In his conclusion, Gov Obiano prayed that his successor would do even better and greater things for ndi Anambra. “I want every onye Anambra in any part of the world to walk tall and be proud of his home”, he said.

The book, ‘Governor Willie Obiano 7 Years of Delivering Good Governance in Anambra State (2014-2021)’, was edited by Uche Nworah, Ph.D and Emeka Arinze, Ph.D. The contributors include Chief Victor Ike Oye, Chief Willie Nwokoye, C Don Adinuba, James Eze, Emeka Ozumba, Chuka Nnabuife, Duro Onabule, Ikenna Aniagboso, Ejike Anyaduba and Ifeanyi Afuba.

Others are Dan Scott Ofoneme, Ejike Abana, Maxim Uzoatu, Chris Egbuna among others.

The book was reviewed by Prof Frank-Collins Nnamdi Okafor of the department of Political Science, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka.
